To my surprise, this city not much talked about in guide books and among travellers, is beautifully restored to preserve its colonial look (lower right picture). Walking in the old town here feels like travelling back in time. Especially at night (lower left picture), when sitting on the rocking chair and looking at the quiet cobbled streets illuminated by street lamps, i felt as if i was in the setting of a period movie! It also has an interesting history. During the colonial period, the city is repeatedly harassed by pirates. The Campechans eventually grew tired of the pirates and constructed a wall to protect the city (upper left picture). There are also a number of bastions at critical locations which survived to this date and became museums. It was a really nice stop and change of scenary between Mayan ruins and more Mayan ruins.. :)
